THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL

The Church Council of Tecumseh United Methodist Church met Sunday, April 2, 2006 at 7:15 pm. Those present were Chairman Herb Whitlow, Pastor Dottie, Ernestine Adams, Betty Fergola, Nelta and Steve Hennessey, Jan Kieffer, Jeanette Johnson, Donna Johnston, Neva Martin, Virginia Martinson, Larry McCammon, Willa Norwood, Jane and Tom Romig, Carole Stone, Betty Waller, Barbara Whitlow, Nancy Rush.
Chairman Herb opened the meeting thanking all for attending.
Pastor Dottie led the devotional time with a reading from Hebrews 12. This passage is appropriate during this Lenten season. As in Hebrews 12:1 we are surrounded by a “great cloud of witnesses” in encouraging one another. We look to Christ as the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. The message is to keep on keeping on and to encourage one another in Christian love. Pastor Dottie closed devotional time with prayer.
The minutes of the March meeting were discussed. The date of May 6 was listed for the Self Care Covenant Workshop. This date is only tentative and will be established later. Council accepted the minutes with this correction.
Nelta (Worship Committee) made available the clipboards to sign up for service in the nursery, ushers, lawn mowers, etc.
Betty Waller gave information on the possibility of a presentation by Leland Domann. He sings, plays guitar, and shares an inspirational message. He will be able to be with us the evening of June 25 at 7:00 pm. He usually charges, but is willing to accept a free will offering. The council approved to invite Leland Domann to TUMC on that date.
Ernestine pointed out that there are three cases of history books remaining. She suggested that a book be given to each new member who came to TUMC after the anniversary celebration. Council approved.
Jeanette (Finance) said there would be a sign up sheet on the clipboard for people to volunteer to sell Dillon’s certificates after worship service each Sunday. She requested council’s consideration in paying registration fees for those attending “This Is Not Your Parents’ Offering Plate” Conference in Kansas City in May. Council approved. Jeanette also asked for council’s approval to advertise the position of choir director and a suggested salary for that position. Council approved.
          Larry discussed the treasurer’s report.
Nelta (Worship) pointed out the need for nursery attendants. She suggested paying Katie an extra $10.00 to arrive at 8:45 am on Easter Sunday to serve at both services (9:00 and 10:45). Council approved.
Neva (Mission) reminded us of the Mission Dinner after worship service on April 23. She will be attending services at Sullivan Chapel on May 7 observing Native American Sunday.
Herb pointed out the TUMC Health Ministry had good coverage on the channel 11 presentation at 12:30 today. He also credited Ernestine for an excellent interview.
During open discussion, Herb led council to share ideas on the work of the church. Ernestine pointed out that it was hard to get people to sign up for Doorstep Calls. It was suggested to mail a postcard to visitors. It was pointed out that personal contact is most important. Herb suggested a brochure to be given to visitors. Betty Waller agreed to work on that project.
Herb thanked Neva for snacks. He and Barb will provide snacks at May’s meeting. Nelta will conduct the devotional time.
Chairman Herb adjourned the meeting and closed with prayer.

 Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Rush, Recording Secretary
