THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL

The Church Council of Tecumseh United Methodist Church met Sunday, March 5, 2006, at 7:15 pm. Those present were Chairman Herb Whitlow, Pastor Dottie, Ernestine Adams, Carolyn Edwards, Betty Fergola, Nelta and Steve Hennessey, Jan Kieffer, Jeanette Johnson, Donna Johnston, Regina Mannell, Neva Martin, Larry McCammon, Willa Norwood, Tom Romig, Carole Stone, Barbara Whitlow, Nancy Rush.
Chairman Herb opened the meeting and thanked all for attending.
Carolyn and Carole conducted the devotional time beginning with a Bible reading from the book of Matthew. The verses told us that as we do to others we do to Christ. We should be open to serve and God will direct us. Devotional time ended with a poem, “Supplies For Life Store’” and prayer.
The minutes of February meeting were approved by council as printed.
The finance report was also approved as printed. Pastor Dottie shared that our church had received a letter from the district superintendent thanking us for 100% apportionment giving.
During committee reports, Nelta (Worship Committee) said there will be two worship services on Easter Sunday. A light breakfast will be served after first service. Volunteers are needed to provide food and to serve. Nelta had clipboards available to sign-up to serve as usher, nursery attendant, etc.
Steve (Trustees) pointed out the need to repair the panel above the front doors. His committee proposes to remove the wood panel and replace it with another material which could show the name of our church or crosses or another design. It was agreed to leave the decision to the Trustees Committee.
Neva (Health Ministry) announced a Self Care Covenant workshop on May 6. All are invited to attend. Materials will be furnished.
Pastor Dottie announced that we will have a new district superintendent as of July 1, 2005. Our current superintendent will begin working with new church starts. Our new superintendent will be Evelyn Fisher who now teaches and works with pastors and congregations who need input.
Pastor Dottie was very pleased with the start-up of the Soul Light Diner.
During open discussion, Herb asked council to be thinking about whether or not we believe we are where we want to be. Council should bring their ideas to the April meeting.
Betty suggested that our congregation show our appreciation to Mert and Ruth Wilch for their many years of service to TUMC. They have moved to their new home and are greatly missed. It was decided to include information in next Sunday’s bulletin to honor them with a card shower. Herb will also invite them to be our guests of honor at April 23 Mission Dinner after worship.
Willa shared that Marge Voigt called her with a need for someone to come to their home and prepare a meal each day for she and Willard. They are willing to pay for this service.
Herb asked if our web page was being used. He would like to include Piet’s  weekly writing.
Herb thanked Tom and Jane for snacks. Dottie volunteered to conduct devotional time at the April meeting and Neva volunteered to provide snacks.
Herb closed the meeting with prayer.

Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Rush, Recording Secretary
