THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL

The Church Council of Tecumseh United Methodist Church met Sunday, May 7, 2006 at 7:15 pm. Those present were Chairman Herb Whitlow, Pastor Dottie, Ernestine Adams, Carolyn Edwards, Betty Fergola, Nelta and Steve Hennessey, Jeanette Johnson, Donna Johnston, Neva Martin, Virginia Martinson, Willa Norwood, Jane and Tom Romig, Barbara Whitlow, Nancy Rush.
Chairman Herb opened the meeting and thanked everyone for attending.
Nelta led the devotional time with readings from Luke 12 and Matthew 6. We need to focus on the things in our lives which are important. God does not ask how much we have but how we use what we do have. Devotional time was closed with prayer.
Minutes of April’s council meeting were accepted as printed.
The treasurer’s report was accepted as printed.
During committee time, Nelta referred to Worship Committee’s printed report and added that Soul Light Diner which meets on Thursday evenings will be discontinued during the summer months and reevaluated in the fall.
Neva (Missions) and other members of council attending Native American Sunday worship shared their thoughts and experiences. A donation was made from proceeds of the last mission dinner to help defray costs of some building improvements.
Carolyn (Congregational Care) set the date of June 11 for the next visitation.
Neva brought a concern before council that she and Pastor Dottie will be attending Annual Conference through Saturday, June 3 and with  Super Sunday scheduled the next day, is there a possibility of  moving Super Sunday to the following week in order to relieve the tight schedule. Council offered no discussion but understood the situation. Chairman Herb said that council had agreed earlier that Super Sunday would be held on the first Sunday each month unless a holiday fell on that day and we needed to stay with that policy.
Ernestine (Education) needs help with Vacation Bible School. It has been suggested to her that during the summer months, children’s Sunday School should be held during the worship time. A problem could arise with parents of children who wish to attend Sunday School themselves. It was suggested that perhaps Katie could take these children during the Sunday School hour.
During open discussion time it was pointed out that there is a need for lawn mowers.
Council discussed at April meeting the possibility of publishing a brochure with information about our church and community. Betty Waller is working on this project and we will discuss it again at June’s council meeting.
Pastor Dottie reminded us that she and Piet will be on vacation for two weeks. If there is a need, please contact Ernestine in the church office, pastoral care will be arranged.
Betty will provide snacks at June’s meeting and she and Willa will provide snacks.
The meeting was adjourned and Herb closed with prayer.

Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Rush, Recording Secretary
