THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL
The Tecumseh United Methodist Church Administrative Council met on April 1, 2007. Those present were Pastor Dottie, Chairman Herb Whitlow, Barbara Whitlow, Betty Fergola, Darlene Peck, Ernestine Adams, Steve & Nelta Hennessey, Neva Martin, Jan Kieffer, Pat Krug, Carole Stone, Virginia Martinson, Betty Waller and Willa Norwood.
Herb called the meeting to order and Neva Martin read John 3:16 and gave a short explanation of her feelings concerning serving all members of God’s family and how very special this is to her and then she closed with prayer.
Darlene made the motion & Dianne 2nd the motion that last month’s minutes be approved. The motion carried. Herb asked for committee reports.
It was reported that the Mission Dinner is to be on April 15th and the money collected will be given to the McCurdy School in New Mexico.
Sample cards were passed to see if anyone felt it would be helpful if similar cards be made and put in the pews for the use of the congregation. Cards would be given to the appropriate person for action. It was decided that they might be helpful.
Steve, Chairman of Trustees, reported that the trustees have approved the purchase of 14 or more tables, new vertical blinds for the multipurpose room and also the purchase of 2 new portable mikes. The Memorial Committee will find out who would like their memorial money used for these purposes. The balance will be paid by UMW.
The problem of mowers for the church yard was discussed. It was decided to see if there were enough volunteers and if not we would look into hiring someone to do it. If we need to hire someone, Ernestine suggested Jake Baughman, a student and church attendee who has a mowing service.
Ernestine brought to our attention a request from Brenda Cook from the Shawnee Heights High School District office. She wanted to know if our facilities would be available, in case it was needed, for a one on one tutoring of students during the summer months on Mon., Wed., & Fri., mornings for one hour sessions. After discussion a motion was made by Nelta and 2nd by Neva that we allow this. The motion passed.
Virginia reported that on April 17, the General UMW will meet at 7:00 pm. The speaker will be from the Heifer International Project & she invited all to attend.
Betty Waller had received notice from the Capital Journal that they are going to have a special on the 60 miles segment for churches & activities, the cost will be $17.50 per column inch. After much discussion, a motion was made by Dianna and 2nd by Willa to allow Betty $200.00 to set up information about our church that would be included in this segment. The motion passed.
Herb asked for ideas concerning our Mission Statement. Several ideas were discussed. Some ideas were to have a Potluck dinner with a movie once a month, to continue Discovery Club, better advertise church coming events, better advertise our web site, Dianna reported on Kiwanis having their Heritage Day on Sept. 22 and would welcome our participation. Herb thanked all for the treats and for faithfully attending to the business of the church. Herb closed the meeting with prayer.
Respectfully Submitted by Willa Norwood, Acting Secretary
