THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL
The Church Council of Tecumseh United Methodist Church met Sunday, August 5, 2007 at 7:15 pm. Those present were Chairman Herb Whitlow, Pastor Dottie, Ernestine Adams, Carolyn Edwards, Betty Fergola, Nelta and Steve Hennessey Jan Kieffer, Donna Johnston, Neva Martin, Virginia Martinson, Willa Norwood, Darlene Peck, Nancy Rush, Colleen Scott, Carole Stone, Betty Waller.
Ernestine led devotions with a reading from Hosea 10 and some thoughts from “The Secret Place”. If you want to see change in the world – start tithing your time. Also, during the devotional time, council members were paired up to study and discuss questions asked regarding maintenance oriented/outreach oriented churches.
The minutes of June Council meeting were approved as printed.
The financial statement was discussed. Neva moved and Ernestine seconded to pay institutional askings in full as soon as possible. Approved by Council. Larry will be contacted to do so.
Ernestine proposed to purchase a laptop computer and a projector in order to do powerpoint presentations. The Boy Scouts have given the church a gift of $500 which does not go into the church budget and could be used for this purpose together with perhaps some memorial fund monies. The total cost could be approximately $1200. Council approved the purchase.
Ernestine also discussed the condition of our floor buffer. Ralph has indicated that it is probably on its last legs. He suggested the possibility of renting one when needed. It was felt, however, that the best plan was to purchase a new one. The cost is approximately $841 from a local janitorial supply company. The status of the buffer purchase was referred to the Trustees Committee.
Ernestine reported that enrollment was held at Tecumseh North on August 2 and students enrolled on that day for Discovery Club. Our enrollment quota was filled with approximately 25 names on the waiting list.
Neva reported for the Health Ministry Committee that there will be a celebration in Wichita which she and other committee members will be attending.
Darlene (Missions) reported from her committee meeting that they would like to donate money to missionaries going to Haiti. Also, that Shawnee Heights Methodist Church is sponsoring a mentor and tutor program at Shawnee Heights Middle School. A representative from their church will be present at our next mission dinner to recruit volunteer workers. The committee is also working on plans for a shower for Greensburg.
Jan Kieffer reported that 286 pairs of socks were collected to donate to the Rescue Mission.
During the open discussion portion of the meeting, council members shared some of their thoughts regarding maintenance/outreach church questions.
Carole announced that plans are set for the Ice Cream Social on September 16. The musical group Personal Touch will perform 6:30-7:30.
During Pastor Dottie’s presentation, she announced that Church Conference will be held November 4. It will begin at 4:00 pm with the SPPR Committee meeting with District Superintendent Evelyn Fisher, followed by her meeting with Church Council at 4:30 pm. Pastor Dottie urged all committees to be working on their individual reports. Pastor Dottie also reported that she and Piet will be out of town September 4-21. DeeAnn Metzger will fill the pulpit September 9, 16, and 23. If there are pastoral needs during her absence, please contact Ernestine.
Nelta volunteered to do devotions and the September Church Council meeting.
Pastor Dottie closed the meeting with prayer.Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Rush, Recording Secretary
