THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL

The Tecumseh United Methodist Church Council met Feb. 11, 2007.  Those present were, Pastor Dottie, Herb Whitlow, Chairman, Neva Martin, Betty Waller, Steve  and Nelta Hennessey, Ernestine Adams, Carole Stone, Colleen Scott, Carolyn Edwards, Pat Krug, and Willa Norwood.

Herb opened the meeting with Scripture readings from Luke 6:12 & 5: 1-11.  He also read portions of a story from “The Interpreter” about how to grow the church.  The general idea was to stop dabbling in religion and everyone grow spiritually.

The Nov.  5, 2006 minutes were reviewed and a motion was made by Neva & 2nd by Willa to accept the November minutes.  The minutes were accepted as printed.   The treasurer’s reports were in the packet and there were no questions about them.

Carol reported that the next Congregational Care visitation will be on April 22nd and they would like for each person who comes to visit bring someone who usually doesn’t visit.    That way more people would be able to visit and each group could spend more time with their person that they are visiting.

Neva mentioned there will be an Education meeting next Tues. evening at 7p.m. Everyone interested in education of any kind is invited to come.   She said the Health Ministry is promoting the yellow dot program and envelopes were passed so anyone wishing to participate could take some.

The Disaster Team will be meeting every 4th Saturday (Feb. 24) morning at 10:00 a.m. to work on plans for our disaster program.  Grantville has been asked to join us in planning.   Because of the Labor Day weekend our Super Sunday will be held on Sept. 9, this year.

Herb asked for discussion on ideas for implementing our mission statement.  There were many suggestions made which included asking people to come, the possibility of having community dinners, have area leaders who call everyone on their list, having another service, and many more good ideas.  It was decided that at our Mission dinner on March 11 everyone should ask someone new or someone not presently attending to come and attend church and stay for dinner.  Each of us is to think about ways to help and report back next meeting.

Herb asked about our Super Sunday snacks and it was decided that each of us attending would bring snacks for ourselves and another person.  That would not place a hardship on any one person to fix snacks.

Pastor Dottie wanted to make it clear to everyone that although she sometimes interrupts conversations, she does not intend for that to happen but because of her hearing problem she depends mostly on lip reading and if she can not see you clearly then she does not know that she is interrupting.  She would like everyone to be  patient with her.

Ernestine will be responsible for the devotions and prayer at our next meeting.

The Council meeting was adjourned.

Neva closed the meeting with prayer.|

Respectfully Submitted, Willa Norwood, Acting Secretary
