THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL
The Tecumseh Administrative Council met at the church on June 3, 2007. Those present were Donna Johnston, Neva Martin, Ernestine Adams, Carol Edwards, Pastor Dottie, Virginia Martinson, Nelta Hennessey, Carole Stone, Betty Waller, Colleen Scott, Jan Kieffer, Barbara Whitlow, Roy Baughman, Willa Norwood, and Chairman Herb Whitlow.Herb opened the meeting with readings from Isaiah 7:13 & 14, and 9 and Matthew 22:1 and then a prayer.
Herb stated that there will be no Council meeting in July but we will have one in August. Virginia made the motion to accept the previous 2 months minutes and Neva made the second. Motion carried.
Neva reported the Community response cards are ready to be mailed. The Boy Scouts have helped get them ready to mail. Ernestine reported that on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays this summer there will be 2 teachers teaching in the fellowship hall from 9 to 11.
Virginia reported that the Staff Parish Committee has received no applications for choir directoralthough they have placed several advertisements. She also reported that the new blinds have arrived and there will be someone coming on Friday to give an estimate on hanging them and that the UMW would take care of acquiring new tables and microphones after the curtains were finished.
Donna reported the R. L. McCammon and Marjorie Voigt memorials will be paying for the new blinds. Betty Waller asked about the banner that we have that we used for our anniversary. It was decided to hang it or use it for special events. Betty also told us that the price of our Devotional Advertisement is going up approximately $60.00 a year to about $400.40 per year. Jan made a motion and Donna 2nd it that we continue the advertisement. Motion carried.
Ernestine has envelopes to keep our grocery cards and stubs in so we know how much money is remaining on our cards. She has lots available for our use. Jan reported that the new roof has been installed over the south entrance, a new air conditioning system had been installed for the parsonage, Austin Baughman has been working on the playground and it is all cleaned up with new chips. It looks great. He is doing this for his Eagle Scout award. Herb replaced the bad insulation on the piping to the basement heating convectors.
Carole Stone wanted dates that she could use to have an Ice Cream Social and get entertainment. The dates available are Aug. 19 and Sept. 16. The next Mission Dinner will be July 22. The Mission Dinner for August has been changed to Aug. 26. Kiwanis Heritage Day will be on Sept. 22 and the Santa Fe Band will be here on July 29. It was noted that there are several persons using our Labyrinth. June 10 is visitation Sunday and Carole would like each person to bring someone to go with them to visit so there would be more persons to do the visiting and then there would not be so many for each group to visit. Neva would like to have mid sized vases if anyone has more than they can use.
Herb would like for everyone to go through his list of maintenance and outreach oriented churches and thoughtfully consider them. Add to or cross out ones you do not like. We will address this at our next meeting. Pastor Dottie reported on the Festival of Homiletics she and Pastor Piet attended in Nashville. She also has attended the Walk to Emmaus which is a means of growing spiritually and in leadership qualities. She has brochures for anyone who would like to attend. She and Neva will be at Annual Conference on Wed. thru Sat. this next week. They will be voting for delegates to attend General Conference which is held every 4 years. These delegates are very important as many important problems will come up which will effect the direction of the church.
The Pastor Parish Committee is working on cards to put in the aisles for persons to write prayer concerns on and Pastor Dottie would like the cards placed in the offering plate so that she will know who wants prayers and for whom as she does not want to miss anyone.
Ernestine volunteered to have devotions for our August meeting. Herb closed the meeting with prayer.
Respectfully Submitted by Willa Norwood, Acting Secretary.
