The Administrative Council of Tecumseh United Methodist Church met Sunday, August 3, 2008 at 7:15pm. Those present were Nelta Hennessey, chairperson, Pastor Josh Gooding, Ernestine Adams, Betty Fergola, Sarah and Miri Gooding, Kathy Griffith, Diana Halstead, Steve Hennessey, Jan Kieffer, Pat Krug, Neva Martin, Virginia Martinson, Larry McCammon, Willa Norwood, Darlene Peck, Nancy Rush, Carole Stone, Betty Waller, Barbara and Herb Whitlow.
Diana led the devotional time with a reading from 1 Corinthians telling of spiritual gifts. Mission is God’s purpose for the church. God has a plan for you. Diana closed the devotional time with prayer.
The minutes of the July 13 meeting were approved as printed.
          Committee Reports:
Pat (Finance) passed a sign up sheet to sell grocery cards after worship. She announced the plans for the upcoming Stewardship events. A dinner will be held October 19. Pledge cards will be passed on October 26 and mailed to those members not in attendance.
Herb (Emergency Response Committee) reported that the county has grant monies available for any needs we may have. A meeting is planned in August and a booth will be set up at Heritage Day to share information and answer questions anyone may have. The minutes of all meetings are posted on the church web site.
Kathy (Worship) gave a report on her committee’s activities to date. They met with Pastor Josh on July 28. They discussed music used in worship service, altar decorations, and problems obtaining acolytes for Sunday service. The committee will ask for addresses and schools of students attending college. This information will go to campus ministers with the students’ permission. The committee will meet again in October.
Diana (UMW) told that UMW’s next project will be the making of apple dumplings for the Fall Festival. The work will be done on four Saturday mornings. She asked that anyone who can help with this project to please come. More information on dates and times will come later.
Ernestine reported that Discovery Club has room for more K-4 students. Information is available at the church, and at Tecumseh North office. There will be a team meeting of workers on August 12 at 7:00pm and a work time that morning at 9:00am to organize craft supplies.
Darlene (Missions) reminded everyone of the August contest to collect items for Faith and Fellowship. Information is available in the newsletter.
Carole (Congregational Care) announced that visitation will be held August 17.
Jan (Trustees) said that the parsonage fence will be going up soon. The committee is still working toward replacing the sign in the church yard and will be getting bids to repair or replace the stair treads leading to Fellowship Hall. She also reports that the Christmas in July project collected 262 pairs of socks which were delivered to the Rescue Mission.
Virginia (S/PRC) announced that Sylvan and Ruth Carr have donated their spinet piano to the church. It will replace the piano which is currently in Fellowship Hall which can not longer be tuned. There will be an expense of $150 to hire movers to bring the piano from Carr’s. Darlene moved to approve this expense, Pat seconded, council approved. Virginia also said that her committee had discussed the use of prayer cards available in the pews but a final plan was not yet in place.
          Open Discussion:
Council discussed the use of the printed brochures. The final consensus seemed to be that they will be made available and used as church members see a need.
Ernestine discussed a question which was presented to her regarding the scattering of ashes or burial of ashes in a biodegradable container on the church grounds. The labyrinth seems the logical place. Ernestine moved to check into the legality of doing so. Diana seconded, council approved. Ernestine volunteered to do the research and will report back.
          Pastor’s Time:
Pastor Josh thanked everyone for making he and Sarah and the children feel so welcome at TUMC. He discussed plans for the informal small group cook out gatherings he and Sarah will be hosting during the next few weeks. He asked guests to bring ideas and wanted everyone to know he is always open to suggestions.
Pastor Josh closed council meeting with prayer.

Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Rush, Recording Secretary
