Betty Fergola led the devotional time with a reading that reminded us that God’s people are created to serve. She closed the devotional time with prayer.
The minutes of the June 1 Administrative Council meeting were approved as printed.
Nelta asked each person present at council to take a minute to tell about themselves as an introduction to Pastor Josh who was attending council meeting for the first time since his appointment to TUMC.
Betty Waller passed copies of the TUMC brochure which she had received from the printer. She also passed a rough draft copy of the insert which will be printed in house.
Herb (CERT) told that a training disk has been completed. CERT meeting minutes can be found on the church’s website. The committee will have an information booth at Kiwanis Heritage Day.
Ernestine reported that Berryton UMC is collecting recyclable paper as a fund raiser and she will be taking paper there on a regular basis and anyone wishing to donate their paper may bring it to the church. She also mentioned the Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations meetings are still ongoing. The two final meetings will be held in September and October. She reports that Discovery Club currently has enrolled 22 students and she will be sending letters to last year’s attendees and those on last year’s waiting list. The Healthy Congregations in Action survey results have been received at the church. They will be reviewed and reported on later.
Darlene (Missions) reports that her committee will focus on the project of helping Faith and Fellowship in East Topeka.
Rita (Education) shared that Vacation Bible School was a success. She was also pleased that so many children were in Sunday School today.
Carole (Congregational Care) announced that visitation will be August 10. The annual Ice Cream Social will be held September 14. Gloryland Quartet will provide the entertainment.
Virginia (SPPR) thanked her committee and everyone for helping with all the welcoming activities held for Pastor Josh and family. There is a need to replace the piano in Fellowship Hall. Sylvan and Ruth Carr have a piano they are willing to donate for our use. Fran Helms, choir director, has checked their piano and finds it in good shape. Plans will be made to have it moved to the church.
Ernestine moved to pay the registration fees for our lay member to annual conference following policy guidelines. The motion was seconded by Darlene. Council approved.
Nelta requested that committee chairpersons submit a written report each month to be included in the agenda packet.
Pastor Josh thanked everyone for the warm welcome he and his family have received. He and Sarah are making plans for informal small group gatherings for BBQ at the parsonage to become better acquainted with church members.
