THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL

The Administrative Council of Tecumseh United Methodist Church met Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 7:15pm. Those present were Nelta Hennessey, chairperson, Rev. Beverly McCurdy, Ernestine Adams, Carolyn Edwards, Betty Fergola, Rita Halderman, Diana Halstead, Steve Hennessey, Jan Kieffer, Pat Krug, Neva Martin, Virginia Martinson, Willa Norwood, Darlene Peck, Nancy Rush, Carole Stone, Barbara Whitlow, Christine Whitlow, Herb Whitlow.
Carole led the devotional time with a reading from Midland Hospice Newsletter telling the story of a king and his four wives. Before his death he found that the wife he cared for the least was the one who was most faithful and true. The thought for the day was, “When the world pushes you to your knees, you are in the perfect position to pray”. Carole closed the devotional time with prayer.
The minutes of the May 4 meeting were approved as printed.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Herb (CERT) referred to the minutes of Tecumseh CERT Meeting held on May 24 which are included in the agenda packet. One of the focuses of the CERT committee is to dispel the idea that “It’ll never happen here and if it does, the government will take care of us”. The committee would like TUMC to be fully functional as an emergency center. They would like a generator to be installed at TUMC to be used in case of power failure. Neva has contacted and received permission from UMW to use any supplies on hand at times when the church is used as a shelter.
Carole (Congregational Care) reports that visitation will take place on the afternoon of June 8.
Pat reported that the TUMC brochures have not been completed as yet. Some new photos have been taken and need to be placed in draft going to the printer.
Diana (Lay Leadership) said that we need to fill the position of Worship Chairperson. She contacted Kathy Griffith who was most willing to accept the position. Diana moved for council to approve her appointment. Virginia seconded the motion, Council approved.
Jan (Trustees) reported that she has received a bid of $718 to repair the ceiling at the south entrance of the church building. Bids are being received for fencing at the parsonage. A new refrigerator will be purchased for the parsonage and patio repair will also be done.
Darlene (Missions) mentioned the insert in the newsletter which told of coupons and labels to save and will go to McCurdy School. $385 in donation was received from the dinner after worship and those funds will go to the Heifer Project. Those funds will be matched by the Bill Gates Foundation. The next mission dinner will be July 20.
Rita (Education) pointed to beginning of children’s Sunday School during the worship hour. Vacation Bible School plans are underway.
Virginia (S/PRC) reported that her committee is working on plans welcoming Pastor Gooding and family at a carry-in dinner after worship on July 13 and to honor them with a “pounding”. Church members should bring a pound of a household item they can use in their new home. Virginia and committee would like to ask council to approve a raise to $9.00 per hour for Ernestine and $8.50 for Ralph Nelson, custodian. The motion was seconded by Steve and approved by council.
Nelta shared information she had received from the Heartland Visioning Project. They told dates and places of upcoming meetings. They encouraged churches and other civic groups to participate.
There was discussion regarding the use of memorial monies to fund the installation of a fence and new refrigerator for the parsonage. Trustees will be in contact with the Memorial Committee.
Carole agreed to coordinate the plans for TUMC’s annual ice cream social. She will contact musical groups and select a date.
Reverend Beverly told of the ice cream social on June 22 to be held at Faith and Fellowship. She thanked everyone for their hospitality during her tenure here as interim pastor.
Reverend Beverly closed council meeting with prayer.

Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Rush, Recording Secretary
