THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL

The Administrative Council of Tecumseh United Methodist Church met Sunday, May 4, 2008 at 7:15pm. Those present were Nelta Hennessey, Chairperson, Reverend Beverly McCurdy, Ernestine Adams, Carolyn Edwards, Betty Fergola, Diana Halstead, Steve Hennessey, Jan Kieffer, Pat Krug, Donna Johnston, Neva Martin, Virginia Martinson, Larry McCammon, Willa Norwood, Darlene Peck, Nancy Rush, Colleen Scott, Carole Stone, Betty Waller.
Darlene led the devotional time with a reading from “On the Move in Congregations: Walking With Jesus”. It was pointed out that troubled people often seek religion but that people who regularly attend worship services and are part of a church family are better able to deal with life situations, have better mental health and greater optimism. Darlene closed the devotional time with prayer.
The minutes of the April 6, 2008 Administrative Council Meeting were approved as printed.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Nelta reported for Rita Halderman (Education) that plans are underway for Vacation Bible School. All Sunday School classes will meet together during the summer months. Children’s Sunday School will meet during the worship hour and helpers are needed for that time.
Ernestine (Discovery Club) referred to her written report in the agenda packet. She also thanked Pastor Beverly for being an important part of the Discovery Club time.
Jan (Trustees) announced that the committee is seeking bids for the fence to be installed at the parsonage. Bids are also being taken for work on the church’s south canopy. The sign in front of the church needs to be replaced and the committee is checking prices and sources.
Larry (Finance) referred to the written treasurer’s report. Pat passed the sign up sheet to sell Dillon’s cards after worship each Sunday. Pat announced that the TUMC Bridges to the Future campaign had raised $12,195. She received a letter from the district campaign director commending our accomplishment.
Virginia (S/PRC) reported that the committee is planning a welcome for Pastor Josh Gooding whose first Sunday in the pulpit will be July 6. Plans are underway for a carry in dinner after worship on July 13.
Carolyn (Congregational Care) said the next visitation will be in June.
Darlene (Missions) encouraged everyone to collect Campbell labels and Box Tops for Education for McCurdy School. The next mission dinner will be June 1 with proceeds going to the Heifer Project.
NEW BUSINESS:
Ernestine shared a request from a Boy Scout troop in Indiana who would like to sleep overnight at our church July 11 as they pass through the area on a trip. Steve moved to honor their request, Diana seconded, council approved.
PASTOR’S TIME:
Pastor Beverly thanked Rita for conducting the children’s portion of the worship service each Sunday. She is also thankful for the warm welcome she has received at TUMC.
Nelta closed council meeting with prayer.
