     Tecumseh Community Disaster Committee
January 27, 2007 Meeting Minutes

Meeting participants included:
Herb Whitlow
Keith and Lu Zimmer
Tina Shoemaker

The discussion included:
Overview of the committee and activity to date.
Additional facilities in the community that could be included as shelter or resource sites include:
    Tecumseh North Elementary School
    A Place in Time

Communications Issues:
Lu will contact a friend in the ham radio club to identify how to get the       Tecumseh area included in their assigned areas for volunteer ham radio operators during an emergency.
The official address for the committee will be the Tecumseh Methodist Church at 334 SE Tecumseh Road.
Herb shared the “Grantville United Methodist Church (GUMC) Disaster Recovery/Recovery Plan” for discussion. This plan was developed after the Grantville Flood to be used for future planning in the Grantville community. The Tecumseh Committee may use a similar document as part of a mailing to the community. Committee members were asked to review the document and make modifications that would be applicable in Tecumseh.

Database for contact information.
Tina will check with Jim Olson to determine if the Community Resources Council will maintain the database of emergency contacts identified by the committee.

Definition of the Tecumseh Community for focus
Tina distributed a map of the Tecumseh community within a 2-mile radius of the Tecumseh Methodist Church. Jim Olson, Director of the Community Resources Council developed the map.

It was noted that the 2-mile radius included a significant portion of the area potentially to be included by the Shawnee Heights Methodist Church (SHUMC) disaster project. Herb will contact the church to verify the area they intend to serve.
Tina will request a new map with the following dimensions:
Croco Road to the West and Shadden Road to the East
The Kansas River to the North and 21st Street to the South

Future meetings:
All future meetings of the committee will be on the 4th Saturday of each month at 10:00 AM.

February 24:
Herb will extend an invitation to all of the agencies and individuals who have participated on the committee to encourage them to attend the February meeting.
Tina will lead a brainstorming session to identify the potential scope of the Tecumseh project. It was suggested that the discussion be focused on 2 scenarios
one where an emergency situation has occurred and there is no immediate help available to the community, and
the other where there is help available from sources outside the community.

During each meeting the committee will retain any potential contacts or resources identified in the meeting for possible inclusion in the database. (Will need a flip chart for this purpose)

March 24:

The committee will refine the results of the brainstorming session to determine the scope of the project and to develop a preliminary work plan for the project.

There may be additional projects determined during the planning sessions that could be assigned to groups that are participating on the committee. For example, if home-delivered meals to shut-ins during an extended power outage is identified as a project, the Boy Scouts or another group might be asked to take this project on for implementation.

Committee composition:
Herb will contact a friend who works at Westar to determine who we should contact at the Tecumseh Power Plant for discussion of their disaster plan and possible inclusion on the committee.
Herb will also contact the Innovia plant for discussion of their disaster plan and possible inclusion on the committee.
Herb asked committee members to provide him with e-mail addresses of all individuals who should be kept informed of the committee activities. Tina suggested adding Representative Ann Mah to the list.
