TECUMSEH CERT MEETING
July 26, 2008
The Tecumseh CERT met at TUMC at 9:00 am. There were 11 members present: Herb Whitlow, Pat Krug, Neva Martin, Laura Hyer (Deputy Director of Emergency Management), Willa Norwood, David Brink, Linda Brink, Larry McCammon, Sarah Gooding, Steve Vogel, Linda Vogel.
Neva Martin reported labels have been printed with the contact information for Tecumseh CERT. These will be placed on the CERT Pamphlets we had received from the County in 2007.
Labels were attached to Flyers which are to be sent to Area Captains along with a letter inviting them to a meeting August 18 at 7:00 pm at TUMC. At this meeting Area Captains will learn about The Ready Neighborhood Program and its use in preparing their area for an unusual incident. Each Captain will receive a Ready Neighborhood Packet at this time. The letters will be sent out August 8 or 9th. The program will be presented again at our regular meeting Aug.23 at 9:00 am.
Herb reported that there were areas that had no Area Captains. We will make every effort to fill these positions.
Neva was asked to contact the Red Cross about obtaining 15 cots to be a permanent part of the Tecumseh CERT Preparedness Program. Herb volunteered to pick them up when they become available.
Herb mentioned that on Heritage Days which is Sept. 27, we will need volunteers to help man the tent and give out information. Some suggestions to create interest were to show pictures of disaster sites, give coloring books to children so parents could be involved in conversations, show map of the area, (so they could see how areas are divided), have equipment and fire extinguishers there for people to view, give possible demonstrations of some recovery methods, and have flyers available.
Herb asked if there is a Reverse 911 call system available for use in contacting Area Captains in case of an unusual incident. Laura Hyer suggested we contact the Shawnee County Emergency Alert System who might be able to provide this service.
Herb said we need a plan in place so that all Area Captains and Emergency Personnel will know what type of action will always take place in case of any type of emergency. Herb will contact Jeanne Sebree who has shown an interest in helping organize the TCERT Program. Deputy Director Laura Hyer offered to assist.
When a disaster happens in another area, any of our trained people on TCERT would be welcomed and a job could be found that they could do according to their physical capabilities. It is a matter of each person’s choice whether he or she will respond.
Respectfully submitted by Willa Norwood, acting secretary
