TECUMSEH CERT MEETING
June 28, 2008The Tecumseh Community Emergency Response Team met at the church at 9:00 a.m. on June 28, 2008. Neva chaired the meeting in Herb’s absence. We had a very sparse turnout.
Neva reported several emergency shelters had been opened the past few weeks. The Tecumseh South and Shawnee Heights Grade Schools were opened once and the Expo Center was also opened several times. No one was able to go to Chapman.
Neva has placed a few supplies in the back room to be used in case of an emergency after getting approval from the Tecumseh UMW to use the space and supplies there if and when necessary.
On June 30 at 7:00 p.m. there will be a meeting at the Emergency Operations Center in the Shawnee County Court House. Neva, Pat, and Willa plan on attending. Neva or Pat will take persons wanting to attend. We will leave Tecumseh Church at 5:00 p.m.
The following items were on the agenda to be discussed at the meeting:
Item 1 – There isn’t anyone who has information on 911 reverse calls.
Item 2 – It was discussed and the information to be placed on the labels is Tecumseh CERT, Church, Neva’s, and Herb’s phone # and address of church. Check with Larry and see if he will set up a web page for us. It is to be included if he will. Neva will see if Ernestine can run the labels and we can all help place them on the brochures at one of our meetings. We need these before Kiwanis Heritage Days on September 27 so the brochures can be handed out then.
Item 3 - Yes, the Captains and Assistant Captains should have a phone directory. It was felt at this time that others did not need one.
Item 4 – We decided that we should have the large maps available for persons to see, Brochures, a Life Guide Series booklet to hand out, CERT Kit so people can see the extent of our emergency supplies and all that is involved in our OK and HELP signs. It was decided that the signs only be displayed in case of an emergency. If there was no sign, we would know to check on that family.
Item 5 – The cots are in very compact bags. It is hoped that we can find a spot in one of the supplies rooms in the church to store them.
Item 6 – It was unanimously decided to leave the meeting time as is for now.
Item 7 – We discussed ways to be able to get all captains here for the July 26 meeting. It was decided that each Captain would be called at least a week before and a letter sent telling them of the importance of their presence at the meeting. It is hoped that we will have the maps of each area with names and addresses. We also need the location of the gas and water meters on each property and any propane tanks if they are not on natural gas.
It was felt that we should have a meeting before the regular July meeting and July 7 at 7:00 p.m*. was the time decided upon. We need to be sure the information for each captain will be available for the meeting on July 26.Respectfully Submitted by Willa Norwood, acting secretary.
* The July 7 meeting was postponed. Materials were not available.
