TECUMSEH CERT MEETING
May 24, 2008

Meeting began at 0900 hours.  Present were:  Dave Sterbenz, Herb Whitlow, Jan Kieffer, Linda Brink, David Brink, Neva Martin, Willa Norwood, Keith Zimmer, Cynthia Whitsell and Larry McCammon.

Herb opened the meeting with a review of suggested ideas generated by the March 29 Tecumseh CERT Meeting.

Herb reported on “The Ready Neighborhood 9 Step Program” as presented by Cheryl Reitemyer was attended by Neva, Herb, Jan, Pat and Mary Ertle and Shawnee County Emergency Management Deputy Director Laura Hyer..  This program is designed for communities to enable them to create separate blocks or areas with a captain in charge of each block or area.  This will provide them with the necessary tools and information to handle emergencies in their area.  The program was presented May 19 at the Church.

In further discussion by our CERT meeting group indicated that this program would provide us with the necessary information needed  for each area captain.  SN CO Emergency Director Dave Sterbenz has The Ready Neighborhood Program on his computer and will make copies for us.  Dave suggested that a map for each area be available to each captain.  This will be copied from our new Area Map.

Neva Martin reported she had attended the Red Cross program on Shelter Management.  Dave Sterbenz said he would like to see the Church to be equipped with some emergency supplies.  He also suggested that a large permanent generator be installed at the Church.  This would allow the Church to be used in case of power failure.  Neva Martin said she would asked the UMW committee if in an emergency would it be O.K. to use whatever supplies available at the Church.  These supplies would be replaced as soon as possible.

Herb suggested we set up a schedule to complete the following tasks:   1. The first meeting of all Area Captains:
    a. The Ready Neighborhood material be available
    b. Identification badges for everyone, kansasresponder.com
    c. To be ready by July 26.
2. CERT make up lessons for three members who missed session –             Herb to contact Bret
3. Heritage Days, Sept. 27, 2008
    a. Have CERT brochures ready with Tecumseh CERT information

Larry McCammon suggested we have a CERT email address for the Tecumseh CERT group.  He will look into it.
