Tecumseh United Methodist Church
January 24, 2009 Monthly MeetingThe Jan. 24, 2009 TCERT meeting, held at the TUMC, was called to order at 9:00 am by Herb Whitlow. Special guests were Cheryl Rietmeyer from SnCo CERT, and Dave Sterbenz, SnCo Emergency Management Director.
Herb asked for a report on the Chili Feed.
All those present thought the Chili and soup supper fundraiser held Jan 17, 2009 was a great success. Suggestions to improve the event were: Distribute flyers in neighborhoods to make more people aware of the event and have fewer desserts.Herb wants all receipts turned in for reimbursement.
It was decided to “piggyback” on the TUMC tax exempt status rather than create a 501c3 for TCERT. Larry McCammon, treasurer for TUMC and Linda Brink, treasurer for TCERT agreed to work on this process. Herb reported that TCERT needs a return address stamp, with the TUMC identified somewhere on the stamp to take advantage of the church mailing status.Herb presented a plan for a packet of information. The packet would contain OK and HELP signs and information about TCERT, to be distributed by area captains, or by the Boy Scouts from Troop 18, in areas where there are no captains. Herb suggests using Pro Print as they will print 2,000 copies for $100.
Cheryl Rietmeyer discussed the need for TCERT members to identify special needs citizens to explain the TV-HD conversion process, so that no one is without a source of information during a disaster.
Sn Co CERT is building neighborhood teams in Rossville. TCERT is being used as an example of how to build a neighborhood CERT organization.
Sn Co CERT is sponsoring a TEXAS HOLD’UM poker tournament March 14, 2009, as a fundraiser. The event will be at the Bingo Hall at 29th and California. Contact Cheryl for more information.
CERT training is being planned for Feb.6 & 7, and Feb. 13 & 14. Class size is limited to 25. Training will be held at the TUMC. Contact Cheryl Rietmeyer or Herb Whitlow for more information.
Bret Greenwood presented a very nice power point presentation of the damage caused by the tornado at Chapman, KS.
The meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Ertl (for Willa Norwood)
