THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Missions Committee Minutes
February 4, 2007

The Mission Committee met at the church on Feb. 4 at 2:00 p.m. with Herb & Barbara Whitlow, Neva Martin, Betty Fergola, Nelta Hennessey, Darlene Peck, & Willa Norwood present.

Darlene, chairlady, opened with a reading from the Upper Room and a bible reading from Matthew 25: 31-46.

Because Neva has access to some flowers which are being on a regular basis given to the church, she asked permission to put them in small bouquets and take them to residents of nursing homes.  We all agreed that this was an excellent outreach program and all were in favor of her doing this as long as she was willing to fix them and deliver them.Neva
reported that she has plenty of soup left over for our ham and bean dinner on February 17 and she also would donate to us some crackers that she had left over from the dinner today.

Herb reported that the Disaster Relief Team had met and is in the process of trying to come up with guidelines to follow in setting up our disaster program. He said that the Grantville group has invited them to visit and see if they could help in any way with ideas on the program.   We need to establish our territory and set up block wardens who would be responsible for keeping track of the persons in their area and reporting any problems that anyone might have( unable to drive, needing assistance with food, shopping,  etc. that they might need in case of an emergency).  There is a report from the support group at the United Methodist Church in Salina that we can receive that may help in setting this up.  The committee will be meeting each 4th Saturday of every month.

Our Mission Dinners will be held on March 11 with Willa in charge, April 15 with Herb in charge, July 22 with Betty in charge & Aug. 19 with the person in charge yet to be determined.

According to the treasurer's report we have $645.07 in our treasury.  We have decided to support a missionary with $50.00 a month for the next year. The missionary that will receive the funds is yet to be decided.  Herb will be checking on some possibilities.

It has been decided that the money which we make on our ham & bean dinner will be donated to the Methodist Conference Disaster Fund which is being used at this time to aid persons in Western Kansas who were so severely damaged by the terrible snow storms.

We discussed for a short time goals for the next year.  The Heifer Project, Sullivan Chapel, and possibilities for a more evangelistic outreach were suggested.  Herb feels that evangelism should be a big part of our outreach. We will discuss this possibility more in the future.

The Mission meeting closed and will meet on Friday afternoon the 16th to prepare for the ham & bean dinner.

Respectfully Submitted by Willa Norwood, Secretary
